## The Island of the Apemen *The Island of the Apemen* is a fantasy setting being built one hex at a time. It takes place on a mysterious tropical island split by tribal warfare, infested with deadly primeval beasts, and brimming with strange crystals that radiate magical energy—all under the ever-watchful eye of a crazed magic-user desirous of the incredible power locked away in the island's hidden depths. ![[island16-9.png]] >**Note:** This setting is also an experiment in building the most on-the-fly gaming experience possible, aiming for a maximum of 30 minutes of hex-building for every four hours of gameplay. ### [[Hexes]] This setting uses the [hexcrawl](https://methodsetmadness.blogspot.com/2021/11/hexcrawl-x-pointcrawl-when-to-use-them.html) game structure to facilitate exploration of the island, empowering players to pursue their adventurous inclinations without restriction and enabling game masters to bring the setting to life with minimal overhead. ### [[Factions]] The territory of the island is divided by factions whose borders are frequently the location of active conflict between the groups. Each faction has their own distinct resources, tactics, goals, and associated rumors. ### [[Random Tables]] This setting provides a wide-range of location-specific random tables, but certain things—like weather, monsters, and unusual occurrences—may be encountered at any point and in virtually any location on the island. These so-called "global events" can be found here and used at the game masters discretion to introduce challenge, excitement, and mystery.
